The Umbrella Revolution

In 2014, Hong Kong saw protests against the downgrading of democracy in the Chinese-ruled territory. Many protesters came with yellow umbrellas which soon became a symbol of their agitation.

Vijay’s classic GIFs 2007-2011 – 282

A Xmas festive edition GIF based on an infamous incident that occurred in Baghdad on the 14th December, 2008. Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw both of his shoes at then-United States President George W. Bush, a grave insult in the Arab world. Bush was attending a press conference with Iraqi government officials at the time. Al-Zaidi was recorded as castigating the president of the US as a war criminal. The former president dodged the flight of both shoes, which narrowly missed then Iraqi PM, Nouri al-Maliki who was in attendance. The scene, caught on international TV, became a rich source of inspiration for many memes in the days after.

Knocking them off a Pegida

A couple of anti-fascists in Germany made fools out of a marching group of Pegida far-right activists after they ran past and stole the Pegida banner right from under the noses of the extremists, in a two-man battle against hate. They succeeded despite the march being under police guard. Gangster!!
