Startups are saving retail.

Brick-and-mortar spending is expected to grow by $36 billion over the next four years, and e-commerce by $50 billion, according to a study by Deloitte. But as new technology closes the gap between online browsing and in-store buying, spending could go even higher.

The MetroCentre in Gateshead, north England is the UK’s (and Europe’s) biggest shopping centre. I got this GIF from my bank’s email about new text alerts that tell you when you’ve blown too much dough on the shopping extravaganza. Luckily, I’m not much of a shopaholic.

The US shopping sales of Black Friday have now become firmly established this side of the Puddle. Mad crushes of shoppers charging into stores and practically duelling with each other over cut-price blenders at 6 am. Ah no, I’ll sit this one out.
