Made from a mixed media painting, this piece shows how a five sided star fits into a pentagon, as well as how golden ratio parallelograms fit into a five sided star.

This is the final Gif from a series that features the golden ratio spiral from my piece “Purple Sunflower Burst”. I manipulated the colors of this one for a different viewing experience. Have a great day!

This gif is an exploration in color shifting my spiral experiments. The original piece features spheres that are arranged to approximate the golden ratio – inspired by the sunflower. Make sure to stare into the center! If you would like to be the first to see my newest art please go to my website and sign up for my list at the bottom of any page.

This gif makes use of my acrylic and ink piece “Transcendental Parallelograms”. Watch as the golden ratio parallelograms morph into petals over and over again.

The third installment of a zooming animation made from my sunflower inspired piece “Purple Sunflower Burst”. Phyllotaxis is the study of plant patterns, and I enjoy working some of these patterns into my work. The Most interesting to me are the Fibonacci/golden ratio patterns present in many plants to solve problems like appropriating equal light to each leaf by the arrangement of leaves.

I used my original piece “Purple Sunflower Burst” to make this gif. I first established the golden ratio spiral pattern in pencil then I added ink. After that I painted with acrylic in many thin layers called glazes. This infinite zoom shows the multiple levels of spirals that can be interpreted when the spheres are arranged to approximate the golden ratio.

The first gif of a set made from my piece “Purple Sunflower Burst”. The piece used to make this gif was originally 30” by 30” ink and acrylic on a painting panel. This piece is inspired by the arrangement of seeds on the head of a sunflower and closely approximates the golden ratio. This ratio enables the sunflower to pack a lot of seeds into one head! Many other plants use this ratio to ensure that each leaf gets the maximum amount of sunlight. Phyllotaxis is a study that documents the many patterns related to plants and their growth.

This color shifting GIF features a mixed media painting of mine. The flower of life, the golden ratio, and the pentad (five sided form) all come together to create this growth.
