In this cool science experiment, an anvil weighing 50 lbs. (23 kg.) floats quite easily in a tub of mercury in its room temperature, liquid state. No matter how hard the demonstrator tries, the anvil refuses to sink beneath the silvery waves. Jawdropping.

For those who don’t get the eon8 reference, this was a mysterious website that was live from Dec. 2005 to Jul. 2006, which displayed odd codes and a countdown timer. Theories ranging from the widespread release of a PC virus to the end of the world appeared around eon8, but in the end it turned out to be a sociological experiment on how Net users would react to a lack of information.
