This animation resembles the actual artwork more than the other manipulations I’ve created from this piece. The logarithmic spirals that emanate from the center allow me to smoothly animate this mixed media piece. The original piece was created using Pencil, Ink, and colored pencils.

A variation of the last gif [4/45] ( – this one is titled “Universe”) – to me it looks like a universe, or galaxy with a large emanating energy field. This one also uses my mixed media painting “Double Spirals” as it’s foundation.

It is a digital manipulation of a mixed media painting that explores the ratio 3:8. It is a simple but interesting ratio. One of my favorite things is to juxtapose different patterns to find the third pattern that is created.

Dual spirals radiating from the center define this piece. This pattern is a simple construction of the spirals naturally occurring in some plants, albeit more symmetrical. Sometimes you can observe glassworkers using a similar pattern called fillacello.
