For dinner I had some leftover Quorn biryani my Mum made. My soon to be ex-landlord, who is hogging the shared kitchen as always, spots me with the container of our family national dish, and confides in me that biryani is his favourite. He puts prunes in his one. Go figure.

As any Mauritian family will tell you, biryani is a big thing for us. To prove my point, my Mum gave me enough of the ricey stuff to last two days. To be honest, if my Mum’s biryani went into a triple threat match with the Lakhnavi and Hyderabadi dishes in this GIF, it would make them both quit boxing and hang up their gloves. Breaking news… apparently controversial U.S. presidential candidate Donald “Build a Wall and They Won’t Come In” Trump has Mauritian heritage. This was discovered after the Republicans released a GIF showing the multi-millionaire’s cranium opened up to show a steaming hot plate of biryani where most people keep their brains. Some observers claim it is in fact filling for tacos. Hmm… I’ll stick to my mum’s biryani.
